Website cost calculator (Sri Lanka)
Editorial review: 28 August 2026 · By: Alston Antony
Answer a few short questions and get an itemised LKR range for building and running your website in Sri Lanka. The result is split into three layers: one-off build, fixed annual cost, and (if you sell online) variable payment-processing cost at your expected sales volume. Every calculation input is disclosed under how this is calculated. The output is a planning range, not a fixed quote.
Your estimated website budget
Custom application - needs scope-based estimation. Website page-count pricing is not reliable for this project type. Your cost depends on features, user roles, integrations, backend architecture, security requirements and operational workflows. Request custom project scoping for a scoped estimate instead.

How this estimate is calculated
The calculator uses a normalized baseline plus transparent additive adjustments - not a compounding multiplier that hides where the number came from. The baseline is a 5-page WordPress business site, 1-3 reusable layouts, English only, client-supplied copy and photos, no ecommerce, delivered by a Sri Lankan freelancer. Every question above adds a range on top of that baseline.
Fact-store constants used by the calculator (all pulled from the site's central fact store and updated in place when providers change pricing):
- PayHere Lite variable fee: 3.3% (source: PayHere published pricing, checked 2026-08-27). Higher tiers (Plus, Premium) can be cheaper above their break-even sales volumes - see ecommerce cost model.
- Shopify Basic subscription: 29 USD/month, converted at USD/LKR 320 (checked 2026-08-27). Shopify pricing is market-localized - verify the current Sri Lankan account price at signup.
- Shopify third-party transaction fee (Sri Lanka): 2% on Basic. Sri Lanka is not currently on Shopify Payments' supported-countries list, so this fee applies on top of the local gateway processing fee.
- Domain constants: .lk Economy (Registry) 5,000 LKR/year; .lk Standard package (Registry) 8,000 LKR/year; .lk agent examples: register.lk 4,100 LKR/year, LankaHost 3,500 LKR/year first year; .com (register.lk agent example) 4,700 LKR/year. Checked 2026-08-29.
- Reference USD/LKR rate: 320, checked 2026-08-27. Your card issuer's rate and any foreign-transaction fee may differ.
Build ranges (baseline, layouts, pages, content ownership, languages, ecommerce, catalogue, delivery model, maintenance) are indicative planning ranges compiled from public Sri Lankan pricing pages, published rate cards and project quotations reviewed with client permission - not a verified statistical benchmark. Individual quotations vary widely; use itemised written quotations against the exact scope before committing.
Assumptions the calculator uses (explicit)
- Baseline scope: 5-page WordPress business site, 1-3 reusable layouts, English only, client-supplied copy and photos, no ecommerce, delivered by a Sri Lankan freelancer. Adjustments accrue additively on top of this baseline.
- Delivery model: studio and agency selections widen the top of the range to reflect additional overhead (project management, formal QA, account management). Not derived from a Sri Lankan quotation dataset; treat as a directional planning heuristic, not a market benchmark. See the business website cost breakdown for the scope-vs-organisation-size discussion.
- Post-launch defect period: the calculator's one-off figure normalizes on the assumption that a short post-launch defect-fix period is bundled. Actual provider warranties and support periods vary - ask each quotation to name the exact window.
- Maintenance: included only when Light or Full is selected. "None" adds LKR 0 to the fixed annual line.
- Variable ecommerce fees: estimated at the midpoint of the selected monthly-sales tier, using PayHere Lite (3.3%) as the reference gateway. Shopify path adds Shopify's third-party transaction fee (2%) on top. Higher PayHere tiers save money above their break-even sales volumes - see the ecommerce cost model.
- Tax: the calculator's LKR figures are the vendor's headline price. VAT / SSCL apply on top depending on the vendor's registration and are not added by the calculator.
