Build, host & run your website in Sri Lanka
Looking for the best web hosting in Sri Lanka for your website? Start with the evidence, not the advert.
WebsiteHosting.lk is an independent Sri Lankan editorial reference for hosting, website cost, .lk domains, ecommerce and web design. Primary-source researched; every LKR price and fee traces back to the provider's own page, with the check date on the record. Planning estimates and first-hand tests are labelled where they exist.
WebsiteHosting.lk is an independent Sri Lankan editorial reference - not a hosting company, agency, broker or lead-gen page. Volatile facts (hosting, domain and payment-gateway prices) live in a small central data store, cross-checked against each provider's own current page and dated. Ranking methodology is stated above each ranked table, not below it. Some outbound links are affiliate; that is disclosed on the affiliate disclosure page and does not decide inclusion or order.

Who writes this - and how I can help you
How I can help you choose hosting
Seven things this site does for a Sri Lankan buyer. Each one links to the page that actually delivers it - no claim here is a promise without a page behind it.
Budget-friendly options
Hosting a Sri Lankan business can actually afford - compared in LKR, with the renewal price shown next to the advertised one so a cheap first year doesn't become an expensive third.
See LKR hosting costs →Free migrations
Most reputable hosts migrate an existing site free on signup. I walk you through claiming that, what to check before you cut DNS over, and how to keep downtime to minutes rather than days.
Migration walkthrough →Expert support, free
If your situation isn't answered by the guides, ask. Free hosting consultation, no sales call, no obligation to buy through any link - I reply within two business days.
Ask a hosting question →Updated with new trends
Hosting pricing and platform limits move constantly. Volatile figures live in a dated fact store and get re-checked against the provider's own page, so the number you read is the number you'll be charged.
Intro vs renewal tracker →Local expertise
Based in Colombo, writing for Sri Lankan conditions in 2026: LKR billing, international card and 3-D Secure friction, SLT-Mobitel and Dialog routing, and LK Domain Registry policy.
Local vs international →Personalised approach
There is no single best host. The right plan is sized from your actual workload - a mostly-cached brochure site and a live WooCommerce store belong on different tiers, at different prices.
How much hosting you need →Accountable, not anonymous
One named editor, published criteria above every ranked table, and disclosed affiliate links that change what this site earns per click - never what gets recommended or in what order.
Editorial policy →What are you trying to do with your website?
Three common starting points. Pick the one that matches your situation - the pillar underneath it is the honest answer to your question.
I want a website built for me

WordPress, Shopify, Wix or another builder - the trade-offs and Sri Lanka-specific limitations for each.
Start here →I already have a website
Migrate, secure, back up or improve an existing site, starting with better hosting.
Start here →Types of web hosting I cover
Six hosting types, in plain English. Most Sri Lankan buyers overpay because they bought the type above the one they needed, or underpay and then fight resource limits at the worst possible moment. Pick from the workload, then compare providers inside that type.
| Type | What it is | Best for | Read more |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared hosting | Your site shares one server's resources with many other sites. | Small business, brochure and lead-gen sites on a tight budget | Is shared enough? |
| WordPress hosting | Shared or managed hosting tuned for WordPress - one-click installs, automatic core updates, staging. | WordPress sites that want speed and updates handled for them | WordPress hosting |
| VPS hosting | A guaranteed slice of a server - dedicated CPU and RAM, root-level control. | Growing sites, custom apps and small stores with moderate traffic | VPS hosting |
| Cloud hosting | Resources drawn from a pool of servers, scaled up or down on demand. | Stores with spiky traffic - Avurudu, Black Friday, a campaign launch | Types compared |
| Managed hosting | The provider handles server maintenance, security patching and updates for you. | Businesses with no in-house technical person | 9-point checklist |
| Dedicated hosting | An entire physical server for one site - maximum resources, maximum cost. | High-traffic sites and large organisations with compliance needs | Sizing guide |
Reseller hosting (for freelancers and agencies hosting client sites) is covered separately in the reseller hosting guide. LKR bands for each type sit on the web hosting hub, next to the trade-off each type carries.
Sri Lankan website price snapshot
A live snapshot pulled from the site's central fact store. Every row is a primary-source figure with the provider's own check date - not a "typical" band. Follow the source page for the deeper comparison, multi-year pricing and current caveats.
| What you're paying for | Current value | Evidence | Checked | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| .lk Economy top-level (direct from LK Domain Registry) | LKR 5,000/year | Primary-source | 2026-08-29 | Details |
| .lk Standard package (Registry, bundles open second-levels) | LKR 8,000/year | Primary-source | 2026-08-27 | Details |
| PayHere Lite (Sri Lankan ecommerce payment gateway) | 3.3% local card, no monthly fee | Primary-source | 2026-08-27 | Details |
| Shopify Basic subscription (annual-billing equivalent) | USD 29.00/mo (verify Sri Lankan account price) | Primary-source | 2026-08-29 | Details |
| Hostinger Premium web hosting (promotional rate, 48-month prepaid) | USD 2.99/mo advertised, USD 10.99/mo renewal | Primary-source | 2026-08-27 | Details |
Build-cost ranges (e.g. what a business website costs to design and develop) are WebsiteHosting.lk planning estimates, not primary-source facts, and are labelled as such on the specific pages that carry them. We commit to publishing a normalised Sri Lanka Website Quote Index (25th/median/75th percentile from a documented sample) to replace those planning bands when it ships.
The six things every Sri Lankan website decision comes down to

Short answers first. The full page carries the sources and the caveats.
Hosting is the server that stores your website's files and serves them to visitors. A domain alone points nowhere - the host is what actually answers when someone types your URL.
Read the full answer →Google treats country-code top-level domains such as .lk as a strong country-targeting signal that the site is intended for that country. It does not create a fixed ranking boost; relevance, quality and other signals still decide rankings.
Read the full answer →It depends on how cacheable the site is and how the visitor's ISP routes to your origin. A CDN edge can reduce origin dependency for cacheable pages; uncached dynamic requests still depend on origin location, application performance and network routing.
Read the full answer →Server country alone does not determine hosting quality. Local providers can offer LKR billing, local support and (on some plans) Sri Lanka-located infrastructure; international providers can offer broader region choice and mature platform tooling. Compare against your actual priorities.
Read the full answer →Yes. Free Let's Encrypt SSL is standard on every mainstream host, required by modern browsers, and its absence flags 'Not Secure' to visitors.
Read the full answer →Pick the hosting tier from the workload, not from arbitrary visitor or SKU thresholds. A mostly-cached brochure site can often run on quality shared hosting; dynamic WooCommerce or integration-heavy sites may need more resources or managed infrastructure.

Website cost calculator
Answer a few questions and get an itemised LKR range - one-off build, fixed annual cost and (for stores) variable payment fees at your gateway-processed sales volume. Assumptions are printed alongside the estimate, not hidden in a lookup table.

End-to-end walkthrough: choosing what to build, buying a domain, hosting, launch and maintenance.
Read the guide →How the numbers on this site are sourced
Every price, fee, plan and limit on this site is tied to a specific evidence tier. That vocabulary is used consistently on every ranked table, cost model and comparison page:
| Tier | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Primary-source | Read from the provider's own current page and dated in a central fact store |
| Calculated | Derived from primary-source values (e.g. LKR conversions, plan break-even math) |
| Provider-published | Provider's own claim (e.g. an advertised turnaround) - reproduced, not independently benchmarked |
| Planning estimate | WebsiteHosting.lk's budgeting range for scoping conversations - not a market average |
| First-hand tested | Directly measured or observed by the editor, with methodology stated on the page |
| Community poll | What a named, linked community actually voted for - a real signal of preference, never a substitute for a primary-source fact |
| Unverified | Not yet confirmed - shown as a gap, not filled with a guess |
Rankings state their criteria above the table, not below. Some outbound links are affiliate - that is disclosed here. Affiliate status changes what WebsiteHosting.lk gets paid per click; it does not decide inclusion or order.
Primary-source pricing, dated
Every hosting, domain and payment-gateway price on this site traces back to a small central fact store that references the provider's own current page. If it's not sourced, it's marked planning-estimate or unverified.
Ranked by declared criteria
The criteria go above the ranked table, not below. Read the editorial policy for the specifics of how each ranking is decided.

Web hosting in Sri Lanka - frequently asked questions
Who can help me choose web hosting in Sri Lanka?
I'm Alston Antony, a Colombo-based web hosting consultant and the editor of WebsiteHosting.lk. I have built, hosted and migrated Sri Lankan websites since 2010, and I publish the comparison criteria, the LKR pricing and the check dates so you can verify a recommendation rather than take it on trust. If the guides don't cover your case, the contact page reaches me directly.
Is the hosting consultation on WebsiteHosting.lk free?
Yes. Asking a hosting question costs nothing and carries no obligation to buy through any link on this site. Some outbound links are affiliate links, disclosed on the affiliate disclosure page; that affects what this site earns per click, not which provider gets recommended or in what order.
Can I move my existing website to a new host for free?
Usually, yes. Most reputable shared and managed hosts include free migration of an existing site when you sign up, and you keep your domain throughout - only the nameservers change. Confirm the free-migration offer covers your site count and platform before you pay, and lower your DNS TTL to 300 seconds a day ahead so the cutover takes minutes rather than hours.
Which type of web hosting does a Sri Lankan small business need?
For a brochure or lead-generation site that is mostly cacheable, quality shared hosting or entry WordPress hosting is normally enough. Move to VPS, cloud or managed hosting when the workload is genuinely dynamic - a live WooCommerce store, a booking system, or heavy third-party integrations - rather than when a plan page suggests an upgrade.
Do I need a .lk domain to host a website in Sri Lanka?
No. A .lk domain and your hosting are separate purchases and can come from different companies. LK Domain Registry sells .lk names regardless of where the site is hosted, and a .lk name points at any host's nameservers anywhere in the world.
