Wix in Sri Lanka: pricing, .lk domains and payments

Wix can work well for a Sri Lankan brochure, service or booking website when you want an all-in-one hosted builder and do not want to manage hosting or WordPress maintenance. A .lk domain can be connected to a paid Wix site. The main limitation for Sri Lankan ecommerce is payments: Wix Payments is not currently available in Sri Lanka, and Wix officially lists PayPal and Paymentwall as its Sri Lanka payment providers - PayHere and WebXPay are not currently native Wix options. Wix is also less portable than self-hosted WordPress because a standard Wix website is designed to remain on Wix infrastructure.
What Wix is in 2026
Wix is a hosted website builder that bundles the editor, templates, hosting and SSL into one subscription. It's aimed at owners who want minimal server or infrastructure administration and value visual, drag-and-drop editing. Beyond the classic editor, Wix now combines drag-and-drop with newer AI website-building tools:
- Wix ADI (Artificial Design Intelligence) was retired on 10 November 2024 and is no longer available.
- Wix Harmony, launched in January 2026, is Wix's current AI website-building environment.
- Aria is Wix's AI agent inside Harmony that can generate and modify site designs and content through natural-language instructions.

Because hosting is included, "how much is hosting for Wix?" is not really a Sri Lankan question - it's priced into the subscription.

If Wix bills your account in a foreign currency, your final LKR charge can differ from a simple reference-rate conversion depending on your bank's or card issuer's exchange rate and any applicable international-transaction fees.
Can you connect a .lk domain?
Yes. A registered .lk domain (top-level or open second-level such as .com.lk) can be connected to Wix like any other externally registered domain. A paid Wix plan is required to remove the wix.com subdomain and connect a custom domain.
- Two connection methods. Wix supports connecting via nameservers (Wix hosts DNS for the domain) or pointing (you keep DNS at your existing provider and update A / AAAA / CNAME records). Use whichever Wix's current Connect a Domain flow recommends for your situation.
- Follow Wix's current values. Enter the exact records Wix shows you in the Connect a Domain workflow rather than copying static values from any external guide - Wix updates and localises these over time.
- Cloudflare / DNS-proxy caveat. Wix's nameservers method does not support DNS proxies such as Cloudflare and instructs users to disable them for that setup. If you need to keep proxied DNS externally, use the pointing method instead.
- Allow up to 48 hours. Changes may begin working quickly, but Wix advises allowing up to 48 hours for DNS propagation.
Connecting a .lk to Wix does not change its Registry / registrant relationship. The domain continues to be managed through LK Domain Registry or your authorised .lk agent - Wix simply becomes the website platform and (in the nameserver method) the DNS host. Does Wix Payments work in Sri Lanka?
Which payment providers does Wix list for Sri Lanka?
On Wix's current country / provider list, the payment providers shown for Sri Lanka are:
- PayPal
- Paymentwall
Wix's documentation also notes that if the desired payment provider is not natively supported, developers can build a custom integration using Velo's Payment Provider Service Plugin - which is a development project rather than a plug-and-play choice.
What about PayHere and WebXPay?
PayHere and WebXPay are the two most common Sri Lankan payment gateways, but neither is currently listed among Wix's native Sri Lanka payment providers. Options for accepting PayHere or WebXPay through Wix are:
- Manual / off-platform payment workflow - for example directing customers to a hosted PayHere payment link outside the standard Wix checkout. This is different from a native gateway integration: features such as automated payment confirmation, automatic order-state updates and refunds may not be integrated as they would be with a supported native provider.
- A custom Velo Payment Provider integration - technically possible using Wix's Velo development platform. This is a custom development project, not a plug-and-play choice.

PayPal in Sri Lanka - a 2026 caveat
There is currently a discrepancy worth flagging: Wix lists PayPal as a Sri Lankan payment provider, but PayPal's Sri Lankan merchant functionality is still evolving during its 2026 local-bank rollout. Cross-border receiving is now available for eligible linked accounts with Sampath Bank and Commercial Bank, initially for Personal accounts, with Business rollout in progress. Domestic Sri Lanka-to-Sri Lanka PayPal payments are not supported, and PayPal Checkout availability for Sri Lankan merchants is still in rollout.
Verify that your specific PayPal Business account can receive the type of checkout payments you require before choosing Wix ecommerce solely because PayPal appears in the Wix Sri Lanka provider list.
Can you run ecommerce on Wix in Sri Lanka?
Yes - conditionally. Wix's ecommerce features work technically on eligible plans, and .lk connects fine. The gate is the payment workflow:
- Wix Payments is not available in Sri Lanka.
- Wix officially lists PayPal and Paymentwall for Sri Lanka; PayPal Business merchant functionality is still in rollout.
- PayHere and WebXPay are not native Wix providers today - either accept a non-native workflow or choose a platform with native support.
This is the most important Sri Lanka-specific decision for a Wix store owner. If Wix's currently supported Sri Lankan payment options fit your business model, Wix ecommerce can work. If a native PayHere or WebXPay integration is a hard requirement, another platform is likely a better fit.
What happens if you leave Wix?
Wix is a hosted SaaS platform. A standard Wix site is designed to remain hosted and operated on Wix's infrastructure - it cannot simply be downloaded as a complete portable website and hosted elsewhere. If you later move to another CMS or builder, you generally need to recreate the presentation and functionality on the new platform.
- Site content and design. The working Wix site is not portable as a standalone website.
- Wix Blog posts. Wix currently does not support exporting Wix Blog posts to another platform.
- Off-site backups. A complete standard site backup cannot be stored externally. Wix instead provides Site History and site duplication within the platform.
- Some data can be extracted or migrated separately - contacts, products, media, the domain and text content, depending on the plan and feature.

When Wix makes sense
- You want a hosted, no-server-management setup and prefer visual editing to writing configuration.
- Bookings, scheduling or services are a first-class part of the site (Wix Bookings is available on eligible plans).
- Integrated marketing, CRM and business-management tools inside one platform is worth the subscription.
- Platform dependency is acceptable in exchange for reduced technical responsibility.
- Wix's currently listed Sri Lankan payment providers (or a non-native workflow) fit your ecommerce plans - or you're not running ecommerce at all.
When Wix may not make sense
- Your business needs a Sri Lankan gateway that isn't natively supported - PayHere or WebXPay is a hard requirement.
- Strong hosting portability matters - you want to be able to move the running site between hosts in future.
- The project needs deep server or backend control that a hosted builder does not expose.
- Custom infrastructure or workflows are core to what you're building.
