The pricing philosophy: monthly equivalent is not the invoice
Almost every international hosting page advertises a monthly-equivalent price. The trap for a Sri Lankan buyer is that the advertised monthly rarely matches the amount actually debited to the card. Four numbers describe any hosting plan honestly:
- Advertised monthly rate. The number on the landing page.
- Required commitment term. The number of months the advertised rate assumes are paid up front.
- First invoice. Advertised rate multiplied by required commitment - what the card is actually charged on signup.
- Renewal rate. What the plan bills at from the next cycle onward, in either monthly or annual form.
A plan is cheap only when all four line up with your situation. A USD 2.99/month plan that requires prepaying 48 months is a very different commitment from a USD 2.98/month plan that bills monthly.

Approximate year-one out-of-pocket: LKR 54,800 (because the 48 months are paid together). Amortized per year over the term, hosting comes to about LKR 11,500, making the amortized annual budget roughly LKR 20,300. From year five onward (or year two on a shorter Hostinger term), the plan renews at USD 10.99/month (LKR 42,200/year).
C. Managed WordPress with a full mailbox

Approximate first-year total: LKR 77,100. No renewal shock on the hosting line, but backups, add-on storage and higher-tier servers all sit above the entry rate as the store grows.

The renewal reality
Promotional discounts vary widely across hosts - there is no reliable "renewal is 2x or 4x" rule. The current uplift on the three named international plans this page uses illustrates the spread:

Hidden hosting costs to budget for
- Renewal. The single biggest hidden cost on international shared hosting. Budget for the renewal rate from day one.
- Business email if not bundled. The tier matters: Zoho Mail Lite runs about USD 12/user/year and works as a business mailbox; Google Workspace Business Starter runs about USD 84/user/year and includes Docs, Sheets, Drive and Meet. Very different budget lines.
- Migration fees. Free at most named hosts when requested at signup; some charge later.
- Backup restore fees. Some hosts include backups but bill for the restore or for point-in-time recovery beyond the last snapshot.
- Bandwidth or resource overage. Documented fair-use limits on some plans throttle or bill at the cap.
- Foreign-transaction fees on USD invoices. Your Sri Lankan card issuer usually adds a small percentage to the LKR debit on international transactions.
- Panel or add-on licensing. Rare, but some higher-tier cPanel plans price it separately.
